UTS Open Access Policy refresh

8th January, 2025

We’re thrilled to announce that the UTS Open Access Policy has been updated! This is the first major update since UTS introduced two new Open Access Procedures for Research and Teaching & Learning back in February 2024.

What’s New?

The updated policy aims to streamline the document by removing any overlaps with the new procedures, incorporating essential updates, and ensuring it aligns with related policies.

Key highlights include:

  • Research outputs: You’re still required to deposit records of specified research outputs into the appropriate UTS repository or system. This helps preserve our research and make it accessible to the global academic community. Use OPUS via Symplectic for journal articles, books, book chapters, etc., and Stash for data records.  Other output types are outlined in the Research Open Access Procedure.
  • Educational materials: We encourage you to publish your course and educational materials as open educational resources. More details can be found in the Teaching & Learning Open Access Procedure.

These updates reflect UTS’s commitment to fostering an open and collaborative academic culture, supporting the principles of open access, and delivering public good and broad societal benefits.
