Grant opportunities for open textbook publishing

11th April, 2025

The Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL), Open Educational Resources Collective is now accepting applications for their prestigious grants program. If you are passionate about creating equitable and accessible open educational resources (OER), this is an excellent opportunity to secure funding to support your innovative projects.

Why open textbooks?

An open textbook is an educational resource that is licensed [e.g. Creative Commons] to allow copying, re-distribution, and derivative works, and contains materials that contribute to a course or program of study or co-curricular activities.

Open textbooks remove barriers like affordability and accessibility for your students and allow you to customise learning resources to fit your course needs. A well-designed open textbook can improve the student experience, engagement and learning. Many Australian open textbooks have been modified to reflect localised examples, integration of Indigenous perspectives and best practice in accessibility, inclusion and diversity.

Submissions are now open for the 2025-26 OER Collective grants.
